Cable tie strength
Cable tie tensile strength testing requires ties to be looped to a given diameter and pulled open at a uniform speed, using a split round mandrel. The test is to destruction, either by breaking the tie or overriding the locking mechanism.
For plastic zip ties, the force required will vary between 70 N (16 lbf) and 780 N (175 lbf), so a Mecmesin CrimpTest-1 kN makes an ideal choice, using the alternative bollard fixture.
For metal ties, a WTST 5 kN tester is more suitable.
